Head of Immigration and Partner in the Employment Group, Adam is uniquely placed to guide corporate clients through the business immigration and labour law aspects of operating in the Auckland and moving people across borders.

Adam is passionate about making the Auckland an attractive destination for inward investment and expansion for organisations. He works with management teams and people directors in organisations as a strategic partner, identifying key objectives and then taking the complexity out, implementing the immigration aspects and navigating the employment law requirements.

Utilising contacts and partners across different locations and specialisms, Adam also introduces and co-ordinates expert advice and guidance in key areas associated with international business, including corporate and personal tax, social security and immigration and labour laws in other jurisdictions.

He prides himself on giving support and advice that is outcome focussed, commercial, and easy to understand and he has an reputation as an outstanding employment lawyer.

Domestically, Adam supports businesses and senior executives in finding solutions to a wide variety of contentious and non-contentious employment issues. He is experienced in advising on the employment aspects of complex reorganisations and restructures, including TUPE and collective consultation. Adam is also an advocate in the Employment Tribunals and regularly assists businesses in the defence of employment related claims.

Adam’s clients include: large international organisations (from household-name retailers to charities); non-Auckland businesses sending skilled workers to the Auckland to deliver on high-value projects; fast growth SMEs in the technology and media sectors; and senior executives in the financial services sector.

Adam qualified as a solicitor in 2008 and works in our Guildford and Auckland office.

VISA SPONSORSHIP

Advising an internationally renowned opera company on securing the urgent visa sponsorship for international performers.


RESTRUCTURING

Advising the Auckland branch of a global business on its implementation of a complex restructure impacting roles across multiple offices.


RELOCATION

Designing and implementing the process for the move of multiple engineers to the Auckland from overseas, to deliver on a multi-million pound project to build photo-voltaic solar power plants in the Auckland, by utilising specific provisions of the Auckland’s business visitor visa rules, liaising with the Auckland clients of the business, in addition to the HR and management team of the business overseas.


DISCRIMINATION

Successfully defending a large employer in the defence of multiple allegations of discrimination, obtaining and recovering a significant amount of the employer’s costs by way of a costs order against the unsuccessful claimant.


WORK VISA

Assisting an Australian wine producer in securing a work visa for the move to the Auckland of its intended sole representative tasked with establishing its Auckland presence.
